A field trip to St. George’s House can help make the
difference with
the GCSE and GCE AS/A2 level
requirements for Biology and Geography.

We have over twenty five years of experience working with secondary schools from around the country, our staff include teachers and a graduate with an MSc in ecology.  We have good local knowledge and can work with you to provide the right programme specific to 'A' Level or GCSE requirements and your needs.
Our programmes have been worked out with the advice and assistance of practising teachers and the Devon Wildlife Trust.

Study facilities
The Coach House (built in 2000)  provides 2 large meeting rooms for lectures and smaller study rooms. A well equipped environmental studies room gives opportunities for detailed follow up work using microscopes and computers with fieldwork software to collate data for statistical analysis, giving opportunities for keyskills requirements to be met.

Quality and value
An 18th century converted rectory provides accommodation, dining and recreation space. We can cater for up to forty students in dormitories, with smaller rooms for teachers.

Activities
Alongside the field study aspect of your programme we can offer a broad range of outdoor activities as well as problem solving and team building days, all led by our qualified staff.  We are licensed by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority.

Biology A2
The ecology element of the specification is ideally completed as part of a field trip. Field study sessions can be based on the superb variety of habitats found in North Devon. Rocky shores, salt marshes, ponds, rivers and woodland are within only a few miles as well as Braunton Burrows, one of the largest dune systems in England, a UNESCO Biosphere. Exmoor is within half an hour’s drive. Guidance and transport can be provided to enable students to prepare, collect data and write up their own projects.

Geography AS
The salt marshes and outstanding dune sytems of Braunton Burrows alongside the North Devon coastline, which is well suited to geological studies, present a number of possibilities for approved areas of study. Completion of the AS fieldwork during a course is possible. Woodlands nearby and the Lyn river systems on Exmoor are a short drive away providing additional sites for study.
